The search is on…..for THE Shropshire Lad and Lass with £5000 of prizes for the winners
A countywide hunt has been launched to find the Lad and Lass who best represent all that is Shropshire – with prizes worth £5,000 to each of the lucky winners.
The award-winning Wood Brewery – famed for its own Shropshire Lad and Shropshire Lass beers – is staging a series of challenges at festivals throughout the summer to try to find the pair who personify Shropshire the most.
The winners will be crowned at the Shropshire Oktoberfest in October – with a mouthwatering array of prizes up for grabs.
Stephen O’Neil, of the Craven Arms-based brewery, said the quest aimed to find the lad and lass who stood apart from all other Salopians for their knowledge and love of the county.
“We all know that Shropshire is the most magical place in the country to live and work, with a fantastic history, heritage and community spirit. We have the most beautiful landscape, the best towns and villages and Salopians are the friendliest of all people.
“Our perfect Lad and Lass will represent all that and more. They will understand the heritage of the region and the industry which is part of the county’s history.
“They will know all about their local food and drink and be able to show true community spirit and friendliness and have a genuine love and respect for the great outdoors, for which Shropshire is so famous.
“And they’ll have the personality and wit which makes the people from this county so special.”
The overall winners will each pocket £2,000, a brand new Volvo car for a month, membership of both Love Fitness and the Shrewsbury Club, dinner for two at the Mytton and Mermaid on the edge of Shrewsbury and an annual pass to Shropshire Festivals.
“That’s a pretty-tempting series of prizes, but we know our winners will genuinely care more for the honour of representing all that is best about Shropshire than the rewards,” added Stephen
To help its quest, the brewery is running crazy Shropshire challenges at festivals across the county throughout the summer, in which contestants play beer pong, race round an obstacle course and face the Shropshire town names challenge.
The Lad and Lass with the best times at each event will win dinner for two at the Plough at the Wood Brewery and their names will go forward to the grand final.
Alternatively, hopeful Lads and Lasses can enter a two-minute video to the Wood Brewery facebook page (@WoodBreweryLtd) showing they are the best of Shropshire. The best two videos submitted will also receive dinner for two at the Plough.
The Shropshire Challenge will be at:
· Oswestry Show on 4th August
· Newport Nocturne on 18th August
· Ludlow Food festival 7-9th September
· Shropshire Oktoberfest 6th October
Entrants must be aged 18 or over and more information on the challenge is available on the Wood Brewery website at www.woodbrewery.co.uk
